Title: Digital camera for digiscoping 可用於望遠鏡的數碼相機 Post by Mike Kilburn on Nov 1st, 2002, 6:53pm Dear Digiscopers I have been admiring the results published on these pages by excellent photographers using digital cameras. As my focus is birding rather than photography I do not want to carry lots of SLR camera kit when I am birding, but like the idea of a camera which I can attach to my scope for occasional pictures of easily photographed birds. As a result I would like to buy a digital camera for digiscoping Today I looked at the Nikon 4500 and Nikon 5000. I was close to choosing the Nikon 5000 when the shop assistant in Broadway in Sheung Shui told me that the Nikon 5000 cannot be attached to a telescope but the 4500 can be attached. I prefer the handling and design and megapixel power of 5000 but It is not appropriate if it cannot be attached to a Leica scope. Does anyone know whether the Nikon 5000 can be attached with adaptor or clamp to a Leica scope? Is the difference between 5 megapixels of Nikon 5000 and 4 megapixels of Nikon 4500 significant? Is it possible to buy an adaptor/clamp in Hong Kong? Where can I buy one and how much should I pay? Thank you in advance for your expert advice Mike |

Mail purchase is also feasible. Just tell them your requirement and they can fix it for you. |

Title: Re: Help: choosing a digital camera for digiscopin Post by Mike_Kilburn on Nov 13th, 2002, 9:46am I have bought a Nikon 4500 and planto buy an adaptor for my Leica scope in Taiwan. For thiose who are interested the 4500 has a small object lens which makes it good for using with a scope. Nikon 5000 has a larger object lens and you are likely to get more black edges(vignetting) according to my research. On my first day I shot pictures of Saunders' Gull and Pheasant-tailed Jacana and will post them when I understand how! Thanks to Karl and TH for your advice Mike |
