Have a query - just after I posted the photo of the White Morph Asian Paradise Flycatcher I rec'd a Pm from a member who had not previously made any posts in HKBWS asking for the location of the sighting.

I'm not suggesting it is a suspicious enquiry, but how should I respond, especially taking into consideration the rarity of the sighting?

Would appreeciate yr advice.

My personal view:

Birdwatchers are expected to help each other to see rarities. At the same time, we should also take precautions to protect these birds from undue human disturbance or even harm. If we are not comfortable with revealing the location to the unknown person, we have every reason to ask (courteously) for more information to settle any doubts. I believe those making such requests will understand and respect reasonable challenges to identify themselves.
