Title: Sharing information about some books on birds 鳥書兩本

1. Birds: Their Habits and Skills
by Lesley J. Rogers, Gisela Kaplan

This book lacks stunning photos which are increasingly used to attract readers. However, there is a lot of interesting information about birds' lives for the serious bird lovers. As from the back of the book trying to appeal to its readers:-

Why do pigeons bob their heads when they walk?
Can talking parrots understand what they say?
What do birds learn and remember?

Explanations are drawn from numerous ornithological studies and researches. What can be better than a quick harvest from years of effort of the ornithologists in a few hours? You will be able to tap many killer topics for you next chat with your fellow birders.

2. The Bird: Master of Flight
by Colin James Oliver Harrison

This book was first published in 1993 and may have been hidden from sight in recent years. Don't be misled by the title of the book to believe that it is only about flight. Instead, it is complete with the birds' evolution, life cycles, classification and relationship with mankind. Descriptions about bird flight and their senses, followed by detailed accounts of breeding, nestling, fleding, maturing and migration etc are very interesting with accompanying photos, which are excellent too. The comprehensive classification of bird families is also great reference to complement any field guides. It is on par with another favourite book of mine on the same topic, "The Life of Birds" by David Attenborough. Both books will make your coffee table a more popular place to your visitors.

Hope you like the books too. ::)

Both are available at public libraries. 5 copies for the first and 8 for the second.

At a service charge of $2.5, You can have them delivered to a library convenient to you at the Hong Kong Public Libraries (http://www.hkpl.gov.hk/english/catalogues/catalogues_srlm/catalogues_srlm.html) website.

Thanks to Alan too who helps the "lazy" member.

The books, amongst other wonderful publications (e.g. The Life of Birds, The Raptor Almanac), are also available for sale on the Amazon at unbelieveable prices.  They are selling from as low as US$2.x  - $12.  They are still inexpensive after adding the shipping cost of about US$9.  Better still for combined shipping in some cases.  In fact, some of the books are difficult to buy in HK.  A good personal collection by the bedside make good dreams .......   :)

For Sze's information in case she wants to own the books eventually.  ::)
