30-yr maintenance guarantee? Sharing experience

I am a 10-yr user of a German red-dot binoculars brand. Several yrs ago, my smaller binoculars (10x25) had a short sight problem (can’t focus on distant objects). In 2002, it was fixed by the HK agent with no charge in line with the 30-yr guarantee.

Later, the short sight problem appeared again and I took the binoculars for fixing in April 2006. The agent said the 30-yr maintenance guarantee policy had been revised. As there are some scratches on the body, the short sight problem is considered causing by improper handling. So, the repairing cost cannot be waived.  

Unfortunately, there is no definition of “improper handling”. In addition, it will be a miracle for a 10-yr-old binoculars used for outdoors without any scratches.

If the agent links optical problem of their products with unclear defined improper handling, customers are very difficult to argue with them and the 30-yr maintenance guarantee is just a joke.

At last, I have to pay the repairing cost. Hope birdwatchers can take this unpleasant experience into account when choosing their binoculars.
