I hope the moderators will allow this post to remain.

In the UK, when the birding is quiet, many people have developed an interest in moths. In HK there seem to be few people actively trapping or seeking out moths. Way out in front in expertise is Roger Kendrick and he drives the hobby here. I run a Robinson trap here in Clearwater Bay, as often as my work schedule permits. I have recently taken a 'first for HK'. This is not as fantastic as it sounds as HK is very under-recorded and there must be lots of moths waiting to be found if we could get the number of people trapping up.

There is a Yahoo discussion group dedicated to HK Moths at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hkmoths/ and for anybody interested in the basics and starting up I commend the following site to you

Mothing is complementary to birding - moths that settle around rather than in your trap often attract hungry birds at dawn! We welcome all additions to the HK mothing fraternity.

For avoidance of doubt, the intent is not to kill the moths but to identify, record, in some cases photograph them, then release them unharmed.

Owen, you are right. This is another excellent site, to which I subscribe. It has some splendid photographs and of course the fora cover a lot more than just moths. Highly recommended.
