Title: Re: Is it a White-headed Stilt? Post by gjcarey on Mar 12th, 2003, 9:15am A very good and informative photo. Please look out for similar individuals and photograph them, as these are interesting birds. We get a small number of birds passing through HK that show characters of the subspecies H.h. leucocephalus (hence, 'white-headed'). This taxon occurs in Philippines, Borneo, Java and areas south to Australia. Although it is possible that these birds are 'white-headed stilts', it is also possible that they are part of the range of variation of the subspecies that occurs in east Asia, the nominate form. All this is reported in the 'The Avifauna of HK'. |
