Title: Re: Narcissus Flycatcher ¶À¬ÜöÈ Post by KK Hui on Apr 5th, 2003, 8:32pm Daniel & 648, Great shots of this little bird! I'm not sure how much post processing you both had done but 648's shots are obviously sharper and color is more vivid. Could this be the superior resolution the 1D as compared to 10D? If not, I suspect the 600IS is far better in terms of sharpness and color rendition. That really has me thinking now!!!!! Could I have some technical data such as iso setting, ss etc please ... 648: What is that tiny white dot on your pictures??? Best kk -------------- www.geocities.com/kkhui_001 |

Thank you both for the shooting info. I think even with IS activated, a ss of 1/320 ~ 1/125 sounds dangerously low to me for a subject that doesn't keep still. This bears out more in Daniel's images. I think using fill flash in this case may save the day ... ;D Best kk ------------- www.geocities.com/kkhui_001 |

Title: Re: Narcissus Flycatcher ¶À¬ÜöÈ Post by BERNARD on Apr 7th, 2003, 12:34pm Hi Daniel & 648, Both of you take good clean pictures ! Did you both use hides to wait for the bird to approach very closed to you to take photos ? How close was the bird (how many feet) ? Did you both switch on noise reduction for ISO 400 ? I tried flash photos in Tai Po Kau with noise reduction at ISO 400 and the birds and background still always appear grainy and powdery. Probably my pictures are mostly underexposed (didn't have better beamer) and magnified too much (didn't use hide, so I am quite far away from those birds). I guess both of you use shutter wire to avoiding shaking. Awaiting your expert opinion. Bernard. |

Title: Re: Narcissus Flycatcher ¶À¬ÜöÈ Post by Koel_Ko on Apr 8th, 2003, 5:13pm It is really kind and helpful of you to post up these gorgeous photos to share with all the birders here! Actually i have some questions about the bird itself, features that cannot be revealed with the exception of these excellent photos: 1. Why is the mantle of the bird in the second and fourth photo greyish-green? Is that light (I'm a weak amateur photographer only) or is that the bird? 2. Does the shade and extensiveness of orange on the throat indicate different subspecies? 3. About the call of a Narcissus - does he call like 'tseee'? Thanks a lot for the sharing and answers in advance. |

Title: Re: Narcissus Flycatcher ¶À¬ÜöÈ Post by TUNG on Apr 8th, 2003, 5:39pm You can see some greyish on wing, compared to black on back. Also, this bird has only yellow on throat and breast. You can find some other birds with some orange tinge on throat. It indicates that could be the first year male, which is born last summer. I also saw one Narcissus Flycatcher by the AFCD wadern post, Mai Po this afternoon and it has some orange tinge on throat. It should be different bird. Tung |
