Title: Re: Sooty Flycatcher ?? Post by Mike Kilburn on Oct 10th, 2003, 9:37am Hi Kwan Very nice picture, but I think it is a Brown Flycatcher. Why? The angle of you photo is very helpful in showing the underside of the bill is yellow and rather broad at the base. (you may know that the scientific name of Brown Flycatcher - latirostris - means "broad bill"!) Also the sides of the breast are white with only faint streaks, not much darker or(occasionally with broad streaks) as they should be on Sooty Flycatcher. Cheers Mike |

Title: Re: Sooty Flycatcher 烏鶲 Post by kwan on Oct 10th, 2003, 1:28pm Hi Mike, Another image which explain why I consider as a Sooty Flycatcher. The tiny white spots on the upper part of the body including head. The wing bar is tinted golden color. The overall length of the wing. And overall plumage is genrally darker. Please advise your thoughts and it will be very useful. tks, nick http://a2.cpimg.com/image/16/AE/24480022-7880-01480150-.jpg http://www.hkbws.org.hk/fileServer/PhotoG/kwan/kwanbbflyscatcher02.jpg Tai Po Kau 大埔滘 09/10/2003 Digiscoping |
