Sorry for poor quality of the photos :-[ When it was approaching me far away, I thought it was just another grey heron.  When it was flying closer that I could see the red coverts, I had to hurry to point my manual focus camera (hand held) towards it.  I only managed to take 2 photos :'(

There is no need to be sorry: I have never seen a photo of a flying Purple Heron.
