Title: Dusky Warbler 褐柳鶯
Post by cywong on Feb 9th, 2003, 6:04pm
349 Dusky Warbler 褐柳鶯
Sha Tin 沙田
31/1/2003
Can anyone kindly help me identify this bird?
Its size is similar to that of a yellow-browed warbler.

Found in Shatin 沙田 on 31.1.03

It's certainly a warbler and I think it's a Dusky Warbler. Notice the brownish overall coloration, with perhaps a greyish cast around the head, typical at this time of year as plumage gets very worn, no wing bars or any other distinguishing features, apart from the a supercilium which is clearly more distinct in front of the eye compared to behind it.

Did you note a 'tak' call?

It's most numerous in the NW NT but can be found almost anywhere in HK in winter, usually near water.

Many thanks for Mike's advice. The bird  looks like a Dusky Warbler but it has dark feet. Is it right that Dusky Warblers have feet that are light brown in color?

The legs are,  I guess, a bit darker than usual, but are noted as being variable (e.g. in Svensson's Identification Guide to European Passerines) and everything else points very strongly to Dusky Warbler, especially the supercilium.
