EOS 10D EF600 + 2x + 1.4x
Didn't went to BH3 today, tried BH1 in stead. Presently surprised to see them at a long distance. But didn't see the male.  :(  Stacked converters to get a more decently-sized image. Lighting less than ideal as well. Sorry for the poor quality.  :P

I think the one in the picture is a male. The roles of the sexes are reversed among Painted Snipes. It is the duller male who broods and looks after the young. The more colourful female holds the territory and will look for another mate after laying the eggs.

A few years back, I was thinking about if it was possible to witness shorebirds breeding at Mai Po.  So lucky that my dream finally did come true and hopefully we may have pairs of spoonbills (no matter they are black-faced or sandpiper!) in the near future there at Mai Po!  

Appreciate Mai Po staff's hard work very much!!  Keep it up!
