An adult Amur Falcon (male) was seen at Tsim Bei Tsiu yesterday morning (8:00am). Its reddish vent & feet made it distinguished from other accipiters.

Very elegant bird! Did he subsequently start on his migration or did he stay around?

Is it full frame?! As per KK's previous post, post-processing work is suggested for a more presentable photo. ;D

Hi Daniel,

Of course it is not a full frame photo. Over 60% of it was cropped. The original posted photo was processed based on a jpg file which was resized for two times. I have replaced it with a photo which is working from the RAW file. Please kindly suggest any further post-processing work is required.

As I know, there were only several sight records each year and each time they only appeared in HK for one or two days. (Please correct me if I am wrong :P)
今次是我第二次見到牠，第一次是在多年前，而且只是非常遙遠地看見一隻有紅色腳及臀的隼飛過！ 初時還誤認牠是赤腹鷹。>:(

An Amur Falcon at Mai Po was reported in the hotline at the same day. I believe that it has continued his migration. :-[

多謝 Forrest兄不嗇賜教, 我沒有"A Field Guide to the Birds of China - John MacKinnon",但係在香港及華南鳥類圖鑑72頁-
紅腳隼=Amur Falcon=Manchurian Red-Footed Falcaon=Falco amurensis=鄭作新(1976) 列為 Falco vespertinus amurensis. 而且圖片和你的相片非常相似,請問是否圖鑑有錯???不同的亞種???如何鑑別???還是另有原因??? ??? ;D先謝了!

I saw my adult male Amur Falcon at the southern end of Mai Po (actually perched within Pond 22) between approx 9.05 and 9.30 am, when it flew off high towards TBT - could have been this bird, as the chestnut thighs were similarly dull. I also photographed it, at c. 200 mm through 22-60 scope and Nikon 995. I'll try to post the shot, but it really was just a record shot.

There were reported to be 21 over Mai Po at duck last Sunday (17/10), I understand by Graham Talbot, who I was able to call over by phone to see the Pond 22 bird.

經請教於余日東後 :P，得知以下資料：─

在早年， 阿穆爾隼是被分類為紅腳隼(Falco vespertinus)的一個亞種，所以牠的拉丁學名是Falco vespertinus amurensis (Falco vespertinus後加上amurensis)。
當「香港及華南鳥類」一書再版時，牠們開始被分為兩個不同種─ Eastern Red-footed Falcon(或Amur Falcon) & Western Red-footed Falcon，可惜當時中文名字仍只叫作紅腳隼。
近年香港才正式將 阿穆爾隼確認為牠的中文名字(Hong Kong Bird 1999 & 2000)。

「香港及華南鳥類」內的圖片只是阿穆爾隼 的雌鳥；根據Rapors of the World (Helm)的圖片，雄性的阿穆爾隼胸部顏色是比雄性紅腳隼較淺淡的。 :o

「香港及華南鳥類」只是一本觀鳥的入門書籍，未能盡錄所有本地的稀有品種。如要辨認相似的稀有品種，就要參考其它不同的書籍圖鑑了 :-[。

No, lah. ::)
I still think "Bird of the Month"should be the Bonelli's eagle (白腹山鵰) recorded by 648. 648's capture is excellent and the photo is fabulous.

If we really want to change somethings, I would prefer to change as below: ::)
