Title: Re: Imperial Eagle (白肩鵰) inflight Post by Daniel CK Chan on Nov 19th, 2004, 10:06pm Great shot! Angus! Love this angle, especially the spreading wings from the back! :-* Did you and KK see the adult one today? ??? Wish I were in Mai Po today.... :'( |

Title: Re: Imperial Eagle (白肩鵰) inflight Post by KK Hui on Nov 19th, 2004, 10:19pm Nice shot and love the top wing, Angus! ::) You'd have more plumage details if you had used the 1.4x instead ... Slightly over exposed as is if you examine carefully the white strips. PS may correct that; not a big problem. Daniel, no sign of the adult anywhere today ... :( KK Hui ARPS www.geocities.com/kkhui_001 |

Title: Re: Imperial Eagle (白肩鵰) inflight Post by Anguslau on Nov 20th, 2004, 11:45am Thanks for all the comments and suggestions! :) Quote:
Daniel, I did see one adult in the sky. It looked so different from the juvenile that I cannot recognise it as the same species. :P 1D Mark II, EF600+2x, f/11, 1/1000s, iso800 http://www.pbase.com/anguslau/image/36529982.jpg It circled in the sky for quite a while by gliding and never seemed to flap its wings. The underwing was so dark that its almost appeared black. Later on, it was constantly being attacked by a black kite even though the kite was much smaller in size. ::) As kk mentioned, there were two juveniles in Mai Po yesterday. I saw one from the tower hide in early morning. As I moved to bird hide 1 later, I saw two of them on the ground!! One took off as I was adjusting my tripod (argh!!! :(). I waited for the second one to take off and this is one of the images I took. It was still quite low in the horizon, so the sky was not very blue - a bit dirty... ;D Quote:
kk, thanks for the suggestions. I understand what you are saying and certainly see the differences between your image and mine... :P :-[ I wish I could use the 1.4x converter or even without it. But it was quite far away from me. This image is already cropped to about 50% of orignal! Also as you know, my 1D2+EF600+1.4x setup is a bit handicapped and I don't have much confident in it. :( I might try more in the future to see whether I can really use it... I tried to tame down the highlight with the repost below, but I am not sure I've made much improvement. :-[ I found that the orignal image was not overexposed. But as I tried to boost contrast and sharpen, the highlight appeared blown. ??? In this repost, I tried to be less aggressive in increasing contrast. Instead, I sharpened the image a bit more attempting to "bring" out more "details". I also tried a bit less aggressive in increasing the "blue" of the sky so that it appears more natural, but also more dark grey as a result. Not exactly sure whether this is for the better or for the worse... ??? :P :-[http://www.pbase.com/anguslau/image/36550357.jpg |
