Title: Northern Pintail Post by Anguslau on Nov 5th, 2005, 9:56pm Continuing with my duck series. Below is another flight shot for Northern Pintail. Haven't reprocessed this one using the new workflow. I hope the sharpening halo was not too obtrusive here. :P NSW 3/11/2005 1D Mark II, EF600, f/4, 1/5000s, iso320 http://www.hkbws.org.hk/fileServer/PhotoG/anguslau/anguslau_107.jpg http://www.pbase.com/anguslau/image/51782756.jpg |

Title: Re: Northern Pintail Post by Anguslau on Nov 5th, 2005, 10:27pm Thanks, Mac_siu_kit! :) I know about the cause of the halo. I want to know whether my overall sharpening was too aggressive as well. Hope people can comment on this to help me fine tune my processing. Below are several more images of the same duck same flight, essentially same processing including same amount of sharpening. Just different form and background. Do they all look oversharpened? Thanks for any help! :-[ #2 http://www.pbase.com/anguslau/image/51782755.jpg #3 http://www.hkbws.org.hk/fileServer/PhotoG/anguslau/anguslau_108.jpg http://www.pbase.com/anguslau/image/51782754.jpg #4 http://www.pbase.com/anguslau/image/51782753.jpg #5 http://www.hkbws.org.hk/fileServer/PhotoG/anguslau/anguslau_109.jpg http://www.pbase.com/anguslau/image/51782752.jpg #6 http://www.hkbws.org.hk/fileServer/PhotoG/anguslau/anguslau_110.jpg http://www.pbase.com/anguslau/image/51782749.jpg |

Angus, Beautiful shots! I think that sharpening on #2 to #6 are a little aggressive using your own words! ;) KK Hui FRPS www.geocities.com/kkhui_001 |

Title: Re: Northern Pintail Post by Anguslau on Nov 6th, 2005, 2:17pm Thanks kk! :D I think the fine feather pattern on the bird's back doesn't do well under my strong dose of sharpening. I still like the "sharpness" on the wing though. I guess the remedy is again to selectively sharpen some parts of the image while avoiding too much usm on other parts which are more prone to artifacts. This means more complex workflow and more work! :P Well, I guess there are no free lunches, you get what you work for. I should not ask for consistently good results from a highly automated workflow! :P :-[ |
