Title: Re: Yellow Throated Minivet Post by Lynx on Dec 18th, 2005, 10:01pm Hi, Horseeagledog! Are you the young man who was shooting birds next to me in Tai Po Kau today? In my humble opinion, I think this bird is a grey-throated minivet. The yellow breast and belly indicate that this one is a female. For male, the colour is "scarlet" red 8) |

Title: Re: Yellow Throated Minivet Post by horseeagledog on Dec 19th, 2005, 6:21pm After seeing your post I am quite sure we are shooting the same bird and I am the one shooting next to you. I know quite little in bird classification, and after some discussion in Owen's newsgroup I was told this is a '灰喉山椒鳥' and I search in yahoo with the Chinese name and got the English name. After getting your comment I look into a few more search result and seems people translate both Grey- and Yellow-throated minivet to the same Chinese name. I think Grey-throated minivet should better match the color of this bird. ;D |

Title: Re: Yellow Throated Minivet Post by Webcreeper on Dec 19th, 2005, 6:51pm Yes, according to Avibase (http://www.bsc-eoc.org/avibase/avibase.jsp?pg=summary&lang=EN&id=A4D91533AE377EB9&ts=1134989036296) Yellow-throated Minivet is another name for Grey-throated Minivet. There are also other names as well, e.g. Grey-chinned Minivet and Mountain Minivet. However most people here call it Grey-throated. ;) |
