Excellent shot Guy. These are very skittish birds. The hide is obviously doing you proud.

Great picture. I've seen quite a few woodcock on Lamma this winter, but always flushed and flying away at speed, or flying in the dawn or dusk semi light, so it is quite an achievement to get a shot like this.

Nice one Guy. I still haven't seen one. It makes all those hours in the hide worthwhile.Neil.

Reply....... yes is pleasing, although didn't notice it at first as was photographing a Blue Whistling Thrush........ glanced down & it was there...... thought it was just an oversized leaf because was completely motionless.
Shots may appear a little strange because he was standing on a bank & I was shooting slightly downward.

A few shots showing the food searching process, for any that haven't seen it before (I hadn't)........... in fact was my first Woodcock ever. Not easy birds to come across.

Pictures 3 & 4 may look the same, but if you look carefully.......... having found the spot in "2", it positioned itself & pushed its beak into the ground in "3".... then in "4" flexed ints legs to drive its beak further into the ground.

Not as exciting as other birds & prey sequences, buy nonetheless quite interesting........
