Title: Re: Spot-billed Duck 斑嘴鴨 with ChicksAn Post by miket on May 25th, 2006, 6:00pm It should be noted that these are Burmese Spotbill A. p. harringtoni, which finds itself at the eastern extremity of its eastern sub-Himalayan and SE Asian distribution here in HK, while the Palearctic East Asian zonorhyncha (the predominant wintering form) also breeds in small numbers here. Title: Re: Spot-billed Duck 斑嘴鴨 with Chicks Post by johnallcock on May 26th, 2006, 2:37pm It's true that most HK ducks migrate further north to breed (wigeon, pintail, shoveler, teal, tufted etc), to Siberia or North-east China But as noted by Mike previously, zonorhyncha is widespread in China/Japan and haringtoni is mostly a South-east Asian taxon with HK at the NE limit of it's range. |
