2003/04 Age Structure Assessment Study of Wintering Black-faced Spoonbill

Recruitment of Volunteer Photographers

Dear BBS Members,

HKBWS is looking for volunteer photographers to join the BFS Aging Surveys to be held on 20/12/03 and 07/3/04 respectively.

As part of the long-term monitoring programme of BFS, HKBWS has conducted the Age Structure Assessment Study of wintering BFS population in Deep Bay area since 2001 winter. Regular Aging Structure Surveys will be carried out from mid November to Mid April next year. Group and close up photos of inflight BFS will be taken during each survey for assessing their age.

This year, we will carry out 2 large-scale surveys other than the regular surveys for taking photos of BFS at the same time at different locations of Mai Po, Tsim Bei Tsui & Lok Ma Chau, etc. so that more comprehensive and reliable age structure data could be obtained. The 2 large-scale surveys will be carried out on 20/12/03 and 07/3/04 respectively and at least 6 surveyors will be required each time.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the 2 surveys will be carried out in the afternoon period (from 1:30pm to 5:00pm).
