Black-naped Terns
Tolo Harbor
9/8/2004
EOS 10D, 400/5.6

This is not a great day for photography but still there were some interesting observation.

#1 I met "Sze" on the boat. ha..ha..

#2 "Sze" located around 6 (or 10...as I saw) unknown terns were flying at a few hundred meters to the left of the boat about 5 mins before the boat reached Shum Chung.

#3 Around 10 black-naped terns "reoccupied" Bouy A while lighthouse 119 were taken over by egrets.

#4 The terns followed the boat for around 10mins.

Nice to meet you on the ferry yesterday afternoon!
Thanks for your summary for those interesting observation!
And deep thanks for your sharing of birding watching and photography on the ferry! ;D

Here is my observation summary after you got off at Wong Shek and I back to Ma Liu Shui by the ferry!

#1 There were 3 black-naped Terns chase after the ferry between Ko Lau Wan and Tap Mun!

#2 Only least than 10 black-naped Terns chase after the ferry and most of terns just stayed at Lighthouse 119 or flied back to there!

#3 There were 3 black-naped Terns chase after the ferry at Lai Chi Chong and left just 2 mins before the ferry stop at the pier!

#4 Here are some photos I took yesterday, share with all of you! Hope I can take some better photos with the Terns before they left this year!

There are two possible reasons why Guest did not find any terns last Sunday. The first is that Beacon 119 might be occupied by Sunday fishermen : :(

The second is that some of the terns might have returned to the ocean after breeding.

The number of terns has dropped yesterday. Some of them could be juveniles who were still not ready for the ocean, and some could be late starters who were still busy raising their young.
