On the first properly cool weekend of the winter, I made my first visit to my square at Ma On Shan on Saturday 14th December, walking from Mui Tsz Lam to Sai Kung. There were no real highlights, though I did record a couple of Russet Bush Warblers in song, a fair number of thrushes (most of which remained unidentified, as usual, but I did see both Grey-backed and Japanese), 6 Asian Stubtails, 25 Chestnut Bulbuls, a Brown Flycatcher and, surprisingly, a Fantail Warbler at about 320m. altitude.
