Genies from the Sea – Learning about the Terns of Hong Kong

Most people would know what gulls are, but how about terns? Did their forked tails come from a cross between swallows and gulls? Terns are in fact seabirds closely related to gulls, but thanks to their highly streamlined bodies, they are more agile and graceful, just like genies from the sea. Most of the 12 species of terns in Hong Kong are passage migrants found only at specific times and locations. This lecture will focus on the three species that breed in Hong Kong, in particular their behaviour and the need for conservation.
