[Outing] 蒲台觀鳥活動(已滿額) Po Toi outing 25/4/2009 (Full)

There was another trip today, kindly arranged by Andrew Hardacre and keenly taken up by those of who'd failed to act in time and get our names down for the HKBWS trip.

We left Kwun Tong at 8 and returned to Aberdeen at 3.40, having spent 11.15 to 1.30 on Po Toi during the height of the fairly dramatic thunderstorm which moved across HK today.

On the way to Po Toi we had a total of c 150 Red-necked Phalaropes (we later added about 50 more), two Crested Terns, two flocks totalling about 45 Whimbrel, a possible Sooty Shearwater (see posts elsewhere) and a small no. of Aleutian Terns. We also saw a dead Black Bittern, just south of Po Toi.

On the island we saw most of the species reported by MLC in much the same numbers.

On our return journey the highlight was a fairly tight flock of c 300 terns (certainly 270+) which seemed to be mainly Aleutian Terns (thus, perhaps as many as 250) with 30-40 Bridled Terns and small numbers of Common Terns.
