Hong Kong Bird Atlas
Our society has a long history of conducting territory-wide bird censuses:
Bird Breeding Atlas 1993-96 and Winter Atlas 2001-05.
Since 2016, we have re-initiated a bird census in order to update the occurrence of various birds in Hong
Kong, given the vegetation cover, land use, climatic condition and global population status of birds have been gradually changing, if not rapidly. We have recruited almost a hundred experienced volunteers to collect this huge dataset. Our volunteer team is also comprised of seventeen surveyors who had participated in our previous censuses, demonstrating their loyalty and enthusiasm in contributing to the local bird studies. By March 2019, our surveyors had completed to survey 70% of the land areas of Hong Kong, and the entire survey is aimed to be completed by July 2019.
