【領角鴞有幾長氣？】

夜行性嘅貓頭鷹神出鬼沒，究竟無交電話費嘅佢哋，要點樣喺漆黑嘅夜晚中溝通呢？

根據我哋嘅「大嶼山被動聲學監測研究」初步分析，單喺今年一月同一個研究地點，竟然總共錄到超過2萬6千下領角鴞叫聲！

作為一種本地廣泛分布而且常見嘅雀鳥，領角鴞有獨特易認嘅叫聲，每隔大約十秒就會發出「屋」一聲，佢哋就係靠住響亮嘅叫聲同friend子溝通。

如果得一隻領角鴞喺度叫，究竟2萬6千下叫聲，要連續叫幾耐先叫得完？

答案：
開估啦！如果得一隻領角鴞喺度叫，都要連續叫70幾個鐘先叫得完！大家不妨試吓記熟佢嘅叫聲，喺夜晚聽吓佢哋會唔會就喺附近～

Nocturnal creatures like owls appear mysteriously. How do they communicate in the pitch-black night?

According to our preliminary analysis from the passive acoustic research in Lantau Island, we recorded a staggering total of over 26,000 calls of the Collared Scops Owls at one of our research sites in January this year! 

As a common local bird that is widely distributed, the Collared Scops Owl has a unique and easily recognizable call, emitting a "hoot" every ten seconds or so to communicate with friends.

Quiz challenge:
If there was only one Collared Scops Owl calling, how long does it take to complete all the calls in a continuous sequence?

Answer:
It would be a marathon of over 70 hours of hooting! Why not try to familiarize yourself with its call and listen out for it at night – it might just be nearby.
