In China, it is a rare resident outside Hong Kong and Macau. The first record in China was from an adult male specimen obtained on 27 July 1886 at Fuzhou.
Historical records in late 19 century come from Fujian, Guangdong and Hainan provinces, whilst the records from Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shanghai are now untraceable. Recent records in last two decades mainly confine to Guandong and Hainan; the absence of record in Fujian is considered as data deficient whilst its occurrence in Taiwan is considered as vagrant.
It is worth noting that despite of its wide distribution from Fujian to Hainan, the majority localities are near Hong Kong. Despite it is stated as a locally common resident in Guangdong and Fujian, it appears to be true only in Hong Kong recently. Therefore the stable population in Hong Kong is of national importance.
